Apple sees Liquid Glass as an unfinished project, not a failed one. Internal teams describe the upcoming changes as a small redesign to make the interface work better as originally planned by the design team.
Liquid Glass adds glass-like effects with transparency and shadows across the screen. It looks good on OLED displays used in iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches. However, on Mac computers with LCD screens, some users say text becomes difficult to read. This issue appears in areas like Control Center, Finder, and apps with crowded lists or sidebars. The layered visual effects can sometimes make the screen look cluttered.

Developers are now working to solve these problems by reducing transparency, improving shadows, and making text easier to read. Apple will continue using the main Liquid Glass design across its platforms. The company is not planning to remove it or completely redesign it. Instead, Apple wants to improve small details to match the original vision created by the design team led by people like Steve Lemay.
These changes are also part of Apple’s wider software updates planned for 2026. macOS 27, iOS 27, and iPadOS 27 will include bug fixes, better battery life, and faster performance. Apple is also adding stronger network security settings to all three systems. Users will get more control over device connections for better protection.
AI features will be a major part of these updates. Apple is preparing a redesigned Siri experience with a separate app. Apple Intelligence will allow more chatbot-style conversations directly on devices. Users may also be able to choose third-party AI models like Claude for tasks such as writing text, editing images, or answering Siri requests. This will work through a new Extensions system in settings. Supported AI apps can also power features like Writing Tools and Image Playground when needed.

Liquid Glass was first introduced at WWDC 2025 with macOS 26. Early reactions were mixed. Some users liked the new design, while others compared it to older styles like Windows Vista. Apple continued promoting the design by showing examples from third-party apps. Recent test versions of iOS 27 and macOS 27 do not show any major changes to the design. Small features like opacity sliders could be added later to give users more control.
Mac hardware also affects how the design looks. Newer Macs with better displays handle the visual effects more smoothly. Older Macs with LCD screens show the problems more clearly. Apple is also connecting its software improvements with its hardware plans, including possible changes to entry-level MacBook Neo models because of sales trends.
