Sony has officially announced a launch event for its new Xperia 1 series smartphone on May 13 at 11 am Japan time, which is 7:30 pm IST. The company shared the announcement on X and through a YouTube video using the tagline “Next ONE is coming.”
This confirms that the phone belongs to the Xperia 1 lineup, but Sony has not officially revealed the exact model name yet. Sony also launched a new microsite showing a triple rear camera setup placed in an inverted L-shape design, similar to earlier leaks of the rumored Xperia 1 VIII.
The new phone will succeed last year’s Xperia 1 VII, which had a 6.5-inch full-HD+ display. Early leaks suggest the new model will keep the same screen size. A now-removed Amazon Germany listing mentioned a 6.5-inch Full-HD+ OLED display with up to a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother gaming and scrolling.

The phone is expected to feature three rear cameras, including a main 24mm lens, an ultrawide camera, and a telephoto camera, all placed inside a square-shaped camera module.
The phone may come in Garnet Red, Graphite Black, and Lolite Silver color options. Battery life is also expected to be strong, with claims of up to two days of use on a single charge. Reports also suggested that the phone could go on sale in Europe, including Germany and the UK, from June 26.
Pricing details from the Amazon listings showed the phone at EUR 1,868.99 in Germany, which is around Rs. 2,08,000, and GBP 1,728 in the UK, around Rs. 2,22,000. These prices reportedly include Sony WH-1000XM6 wireless headphones in the package.
The India price is still unknown, but earlier Xperia flagship phones were priced between Rs. 1,30,000 and Rs. 1,50,000 after import duties, so the new model may fall in a similar range. FCC and IMEI certification listings also suggest that the phone could launch globally in regions like Japan, Europe, and Asia.

Earlier leaks and renders increased excitement by showing a redesigned rear camera system and features such as a headphone jack and wireless charging support, based on FCC filings. Sony’s launch event is only a few days away, and many reports suggest this device is the Xperia 1 VIII. People are now waiting for May 13 to see the full specifications, processor details like a possible Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, and official hands-on demonstrations.
