Apple showed off its new iOS 27 operating system on Monday at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2026 held at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. This major update will come to eligible iPhone models later in 2026 with a smoother user interface and improvements to the Liquid Glass design that Apple first introduced last year.

The biggest change is to Siri, which now works as its own separate app where users can see their old conversations with Apple's AI assistant. Apple says apps on iPhone and iPad will open up to 30 percent faster than before, and loading photos has gotten much quicker by up to 70 percent. iOS 27 is expected to arrive in the third quarter of 2026 for supported iPhone models.
The new Siri app on iOS 27 works with both Apple's Foundation Models and Google's Gemini AI models together. Users can now open Siri as a standalone app instead of just using it through voice commands, and the app shows older chats so people can review what they talked about before.
Apple Intelligence features will be built into several apps like Safari, Wallet, Photos, and Shortcuts on iOS 27. People can give natural language commands to do different tasks and get helpful suggestions across the whole operating system.
The Photos app now has a new Spatial Reframing feature that lets users extend the edges of images and edit them using simple prompts. The camera app now has a special Siri mode for visual search that helps iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max users who don't have the Camera Control button.
Performance improvements in iOS 27 are quite strong with photos loading up to 70 percent faster and apps opening up to 30 percent quicker compared to iOS 26. AirDrop transfers will finish up to 80 percent faster than before.

Users will notice better switching between Wi-Fi and cellular networks without interruptions. An optimized CPU scheduler gives improved performance on devices that get this software update.
The Liquid Glass design gets a new slider that controls opacity so people can adjust how transparent things look. The Phone app will show important information from the Mail app when calling a business using Call Context.
Both Messages and Mail will suggest tasks under some messages so users can quickly add reminders or make new notes. Safari on iOS 27 automatically groups tabs by topics and can tell users when websites update with new information like prices or when new stock arrives.
Apple also added new parental control features including Time Allowances and Schedules plus a new Ask to Browser feature for checking new websites. These features work across all Apple devices including iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. During the WWDC keynote, Apple said iOS 27 will be available for iPhone 11 series and newer models later this year, and developers will get the new operating system soon.
Users with iPhone 15 Pro and later models will access the new Apple Intelligence features in coming months, though some features will first work in English only. People in China and the EU will wait longer for these features. Users can also customize how Siri sounds by adjusting pitch, speed, tone, and accent of the assistant .
