Google showed new laptops called Googlebooks at the Android Show I/O Edition 2026 on May 12, 2026. The company says Googlebooks are a new type of laptop made for Gemini Intelligence, and the first models will come in fall 2026.
Google is working with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo to build the first Googlebooks, which will come in many shapes and sizes. Each laptop will have a “glowbar” on the lid, a light strip that shows it is a Googlebook.
Googlebooks use software that mixes Android and ChromeOS into one modern system. The system runs on Android tech and supports Chrome for the web, Google Play apps, and Android apps. Inside reports linked the project to Google’s “Aluminium” plan, but Google says Aluminium is only the inside name.

The new system is made to work with Android phones, so users can run phone apps on the laptop without downloading them. A feature called Quick Access lets users see, search, or add files from a linked Android phone with no file transfer needed.
A key feature is Magic Pointer, a new cursor made with Google DeepMind. When users wiggle the cursor, Gemini gives helpful tips based on what is on the screen. For example, pointing at a date in an email can make a meeting, and picking two pictures like a living room and a couch can show them together.
Magic Pointer has ask, compare, and combine tools. Another feature is “Create your Widget,” which lets users build custom desktop widgets with Gemini prompts. Gemini can search the internet and use Google apps like Gmail and Calendar to make a personal dashboard. Users can put flight info, hotel bookings, restaurant plans, and countdowns in one widget.
Googlebooks are made as premium devices. Google says the laptops will use high-quality build and materials. The laptops are built from the start for Gemini Intelligence to give personal and ready help. The system has Gemini built into the OS, not added later, and works as a system-wide AI layer for Android that can do tasks across apps, browsers, and devices. The devices are meant to be the next step after Chromebooks, which came out over 15 years ago.

Google did not share hardware details, chip partners, prices, or model names yet. The company said more details on price and specific models will come later this year. Test units at the event had a thin design with the multicolor glowbar. The first Googlebooks will launch in fall 2026, and the Create your Widget feature is also coming to Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones later this year.
