The company says apps on iPhone and iPad can open up to 30 percent faster than before, so everyday tasks feel snappier from the moment you tap an icon.
New photos appear in the Photos app roughly 70 percent faster, so you can edit or share them almost right after you take the picture. AirDrop also gets a major boost, with file transfers completing up to 80 percent faster, cutting down the wait when you send photos, videos, or documents between Apple devices.

Beyond raw speed, iOS 27 rebuilds how search works across Spotlight, Photos, and Mail, creating a more stable and efficient system that finds what you need quicker. The update improves how devices switch between cellular and Wi‑Fi, making network transitions smoother and faster.
For iPad users, moving files between external storage and the Files app can be up to five times faster, bringing the experience closer to using Finder on a Mac. Apple also added a precise slider to control Liquid Glass opacity across the interface, responding to user feedback that wanted finer control over the tinted versus clear look.

iOS 27 also adds several small but useful improvements, like finding AirDrop recipients faster, reading NFC tags more quickly, connecting to AirPlay more smoothly, loading Safari pages faster, pairing HomeKit devices quicker, and making accessibility features work more smoothly.

The update will be available as a developer beta starting June 8, 2026, with a public beta typically following in July, and the final release expected in September 2026 alongside the next‑generation iPhone.
Any iPhone that runs iOS 26 can upgrade, which includes the iPhone 11 and all newer models, while Apple Intelligence features require an A17 Pro chip or newer (iPhone 15 Pro and later). Note that Apple delayed Siri AI launch in the EU on iOS 27 due to DMA rules, citing privacy and security risks.
