Hyundai Crushes May 2026 Sales Targets with 9% Growth – 47,837 Cars Sold in India as New EV SUV Arrives Before Diwali

Hyundai India sold 47,837 cars in India during May 2026, which is 9.07 percent more than the 43,861 cars they sold in May 2025. This means they sold 3,976 more cars than last year.

When you add the 13,300 cars they exported to other countries, Hyundai's total sales were 61,137 units. This is 4.15 percent higher than the 58,701 units they sold in total (domestic plus exports) in May 2025.

Compared to April 2026, when Hyundai sold 51,902 cars in India, the May 2026 domestic sales dropped by 7.83 percent, which is 4,065 fewer cars. This drop matches what is happening across the entire car industry. After strong sales during festive seasons and year-end periods, all car companies reduce how many cars they send to dealers.

However, exports went down by 10.38 percent compared to last year. In May 2025, Hyundai exported 14,840 cars, but in May 2026, they exported only 13,300 cars. This fall in exports is why the total sales growth was only 4.15 percent even though domestic sales grew by 9.07 percent.

Tarun Garg, the Managing Director and CEO of Hyundai Motor India Limited, said the company is continuing its strong performance into May 2026. He confirmed that Hyundai achieved 9.1 percent growth in domestic sales and 4.1 percent growth in total sales during the month.

The new financial year 2027 has started very well for Hyundai. In the first two months of FY27 (April and May 2026 combined), Hyundai sold 99,739 cars in India. This is 13 percent more than the 88,235 cars they sold in the same two-month period in FY26.

Hyundai's strong sales are mainly because of their SUV range. The Creta, Venue, Exter, Alcazar, and Tucson are all selling well and supporting the company's performance. Hyundai also plans to add more cars to their lineup, including new electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid cars for the Indian market.

The company has confirmed two new car launches for this fiscal year. The first one is an electric SUV that is under 4 meters long, and it will launch before Diwali 2026. The second new car is a mid-size SUV, which is likely to be a Bayon-based crossover that will sit below the Creta in Hyundai's range.

This mid-size SUV will launch in early 2027, possibly at the Bharat Expo. Hyundai is also testing a new generation Creta, and it is expected to launch in the coming months.
