For the first time ever, the company sold more than 10,000 electric vehicles in one month, with combined domestic and export EV sales reaching 10,517 units. This electric vehicle number is 85 percent higher than the 5,685 EVs sold in May 2025, making it the highest monthly EV sales record for Tata Motors.

Inside India, Tata sold 59,090 passenger vehicles in May 2026, up 42.19 percent from the 41,557 units sold in the same month last year. The company also exported 700 passenger vehicles, which is 44.93 percent more than the 483 units exported in May 2025.

Tata sold 59,000 vehicles at home in April 2026, and in May 2026 they sold just 90 more units, which is only 0.15 percent higher. This tiny jump shows that customer demand remained stable even though the company was already selling such large numbers.

Tata Motors became India's second-largest passenger vehicle manufacturer based on retail registrations. Wholesale volumes went up 42 percent during May, and VAHAN registrations grew by more than 50 percent compared to last year.

The growth came from strong demand across all Tata car models, including SUVs and electric vehicles like the Tiago EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, Curvv EV, and Harrier EV. The company said that growing retail registrations and record electric vehicle sales helped keep their momentum strong in May 2026.

With new car launches coming soon and an expanding electric vehicle lineup, Tata Motors is expected to remain a key player in both regular fuel cars and electric cars for the rest of FY2026-27.

The steady increase in exports shows Tata is working to strengthen its presence in overseas markets, even though exports make up a small part of total sales. This strong performance in May shows Tata is leading India's electric passenger vehicle market while also growing its overall car business at a very fast pace.
