Google Chrome Gets AI Mode Update With Side-by-Side Browsing and Smarter Search

Google Chrome has received a new AI Mode update that makes searching and browsing work together in a smoother way. This update is meant to help people research topics more easily, compare information faster, and ask follow-up questions without losing track of what they were reading. It is designed for users who want a simple and better search experience inside the browser.

Google Chrome AI Mode update with side-by-side browsing and contextual search features on a laptop screen

One of the biggest changes is a side-by-side view. On a laptop or desktop, users can now open a webpage next to AI Mode, so they can read the page and talk to AI at the same time. This is useful for long articles, videos, and product research because the original page stays visible while the AI gives extra help, explains things, or compares details.

Google has also made AI Mode more context-aware. It can now use information from different sources, including open tabs, images, and documents, to give more useful answers. Chrome also has a new plus menu that lets users add recent tabs or files to a search, which helps the AI understand the full topic better and respond in a more natural way.

The company says this new setup can make research easier and more focused. For example, someone looking at a product can keep a shopping page open and ask AI questions about things like performance or maintenance. Students can also use it with lecture notes, PDFs, and web pages to get simpler explanations or more helpful study support.

Google has also added AI Mode tools like Canvas and image generation into more parts of Chrome, making them easier to use from inside the browser. According to Google, early testers found the side-by-side layout helpful because it reduced distractions and helped them stay focused while working through long content.

These features are starting to roll out in the United States first. Google says they should reach more regions in the coming months. Overall, the update shows that Chrome is becoming more than just a browser, with Google turning it into a stronger tool for search, reading, learning, and everyday research.
