Instagram has launched a new app called Instants. It lets users easily share quick photos and videos that disappear on their own.
Right now, it is available only in countries like Italy and Spain on Android and iOS through the Google Play Store and App Store. Meta, the company behind Instagram, says this app helps friends stay connected without pressure and share real moments instantly.
Instants is different because it opens directly to the camera when you start the app. There are no options to edit photos or pick from your gallery. You take a photo or short video on the spot and can add a little text if you want. There are no filters or advanced edits, and you cannot use old photos.
When you send it to mutual followers or a close friends list linked to Instagram, they can view it only once before it disappears. Everything is deleted after 24 hours. This makes sharing simple and real, focusing on everyday moments instead of perfect posts.

Meta created Instants to compete with apps like Snapchat and BeReal, which are known for temporary and personal sharing. Unlike Instagram’s main feed filled with polished posts, this app focuses on private, one-time messages. These cannot be saved, reposted, or specially protected from screenshots.
A spokesperson said they are testing different versions of the app to see what users like. It may also become part of the main Instagram app in the future. The tagline “Real life, real quick” reflects the idea of casual and natural sharing.

Currently, the app is only available in limited regions, and Meta has not announced when it will launch in the U.S. or other places. Users log in using their Instagram account, choose who can see their posts from synced lists, and can send and receive Instants through the app or Instagram.
There is no information yet about desktop support or major updates. Early reactions suggest it helps people stay in touch quickly without worrying about likes or public attention. Since content disappears, it also reduces concerns about fake edits or endless scrolling.

This launch follows Meta’s habit of adopting ideas from other apps, like its earlier Vanish Mode feature. However, Instants goes further as a separate app. It has similarities to Snapchat, such as opening straight to the camera and automatic deletion, but it connects smoothly with your existing Instagram network.
As testing continues, more users may get access, especially if feedback from early users in Europe is positive. People interested should watch app stores and Instagram updates for future availability.
