Samsung is thinking about changing the rear camera design on its upcoming Galaxy S27 phones. This new design could create space for built-in magnets that support Qi2 wireless charging.
With this, users could easily attach accessories and chargers without needing extra cases. This idea comes from discussions in Samsung’s supply chain and was first shared by a Korean tipster, later gaining attention across tech websites.
Right now, the Galaxy S26 and earlier models use the same vertical camera layout. This design takes up the space where magnets and charging coils would go for proper Qi2 support. Qi2 allows up to 15W charging and better alignment, similar to Apple’s MagSafe. Samsung did not include built-in Qi2 in the S26, so users have to rely on special cases. Changing the camera position could solve this problem and would be the first major camera layout change since the Galaxy S20 in 2020.

Reports say Samsung is reviewing not only the camera placement but also the entire internal design of the S27 series. The exact new camera style is not known yet it could be a horizontal bar or separate lenses but it would replace the long-used vertical layout. Samsung might test this new design on another device, like a foldable phone, before using it in the Galaxy S series. However, nothing is confirmed yet, and Samsung has not shared any official details.
Cost is a big challenge for these changes. Prices of memory, storage, and other components have increased, so Samsung is already limiting some upgrades to higher-end models. A major redesign could increase costs further, so the company might keep the current design if needed. A final decision is expected closer to early 2027, around the launch time of the Galaxy S27 series.

Qi2 support would be a big benefit for users, making charging easier and allowing accessories like wallets and stands to attach securely. It would also help Samsung compete with brands like Google Pixel that already offer similar features. Other rumored upgrades include a better battery and a 200MP camera sensor, but the camera redesign is getting the most attention right now.
All this information comes from early reports and is not fully confirmed. Samsung often changes its plans during development. More details will likely appear in the coming months as leaks and supply chain updates give a clearer idea of what to expect from the Galaxy S27 series.
