Google has introduced new features for AI Mode and AI Overviews in Search to help users find trusted information more easily and explore topics in greater detail. These updates started rolling out on May 7, 2026.
The main goal is to connect users with expert opinions, trusted sources, and useful website previews. Google says these changes are part of its ongoing effort to make AI search results more accurate and helpful using information from across the web.
One major update adds suggestions at the end of AI answers that lead users to unique articles or more detailed analysis on the same topic. When users ask a question and receive a response from Gemini, they now also get links to different viewpoints or deeper explanations.

This helps users learn more about a subject in an organized way, whether they are researching a product or trying to understand a difficult topic. Google says these suggestions make it easier to explore topics without needing to search repeatedly.
People who subscribe to news publishers will now see their trusted sources more clearly in AI answers. Citations from subscribed publishers will include a special tick mark and label. This helps users quickly identify familiar and reliable news outlets. Google says this feature also encourages people to read complete articles from the publishers they already trust.
Google is also adding expert advice based on real people’s experiences shared online. AI Overviews and AI Mode can now include opinions, reviews, and tips from users who have used products, visited places, or have knowledge in specific fields. These insights come from public discussions, social media posts, and firsthand experiences. T
he AI response may also show the creator’s name, handle, or community information. This allows users to judge whether the perspective is useful for them and adds a more human element to AI answers.
Google is adding more links directly inside AI responses to improve trust and give users quick access to original websites. Small URL icons, shown as chain links, now appear beside bullet points and short paragraphs. Users can click these links to open the original source whenever they want. Google says these additional citations help users verify information and explore topics further if they are interested.

On desktop devices, users can now preview websites before opening them. When someone moves their cursor over an inline link, a small preview appears showing the website name and page title. This feature works in both AI Mode and AI Overviews and helps users better understand where a link will take them before clicking. Google says the preview feature is being released first for desktop users to reduce uncertain clicks.
Hema Budaraju explained in a company blog post that these features work best when they connect users to real voices and trusted web content. Together, the five updates improve the search experience by combining AI-generated summaries with direct access to websites, detailed analysis, and personal insights. The rollout began globally after the May 6 announcement and is continuing for more users.
These updates are part of Google’s larger improvements to Search, including agentic features in the Google app for Windows and Chrome that can perform tasks such as restaurant bookings. Google continues improving its AI tools to answer more complex questions while keeping information sources clear and easy to access.
