Apple is stopping software updates for 16 older devices across four product types. This change comes from the new updates shown at WWDC 2026 last week.

The updates are iPadOS 27 for iPads, watchOS 27 for Apple Watches, macOS 27 Golden Gate for Macs, and tvOS 27 for Apple TVs. These updates are ready for developers now and will be available to everyone later this year.
The Apple Watch line gets the biggest change. WatchOS 27 will not work on five older smartwatch models. This is the biggest time Apple has cut off so many watches in one update.

The watches that will not get the update are Apple Watch Series 6 from 2020, Series 7 from 2021, Series 8 from 2022, Apple Watch Ultra first gen from 2022, and Apple Watch SE second gen from 2022. New Apple Watches need to have the S9 or S10 chip to run watchOS 27 .
iPad users also lose support for some models. Apple now says iPads need the A14 Bionic chip or a newer chip for iPadOS 27. Five iPad models that worked with iPadOS 26 will not work with iPadOS 27. These are iPad Air third gen from 2019, iPad Pro 12.9 inch third gen from 2018, iPad Pro 11 inch first gen from 2018, iPad eighth gen from 2020, and iPad mini fifth gen from 2019.

For Mac computers, macOS 27 Golden Gate is a big change because it ends support for Intel processors. This is the first macOS that only works with Apple Silicon chips. Four Intel Mac models will not get this update. They are MacBook Pro 16 inch from 2019, MacBook Pro 13 inch from 2020 with four Thunderbolt 3 ports, iMac from 2020, and Mac Pro from 2019.
Apple TV also loses support for two older models. TvOS 27 will not work on Apple TV HD from 2015 and Apple TV 4K first gen from 2017. Only Apple TV 4K second gen and third gen will get tvOS 27.

iPhone users get good news. iOS 27 will work on all iPhone models that work with iOS 26. The iPhone 11, which is almost seven years old and was launched about six and a half years ago, will still get updates. All newer iPhones will also get iOS 27. But iPhones older than iPhone 15 Pro will not get the new Apple Intelligence features, just like with iOS 26.
Apple usually gives security updates and bug fixes for old software versions for at least one year after new versions come out. So older devices will still get some protection for a while . In total, 16 devices lose support: five Apple Watches, five iPads, four Intel Macs, and two Apple TVs
