MediaTek is creating a lot of buzz in the smartphone industry with new leaks about its upcoming Dimensity 9600 Pro chipset. This powerful chip could go head-to-head with big competitors like Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.
Trusted tipsters on Weibo, such as Digital Chat Station, have shared details showing that this new processor from the Taiwanese company reached peak speeds of almost 5GHz in tests. That's a solid improvement over the Dimensity 9500's top speed of 4.21GHz on its main core.
Leaked benchmark scores from early prototypes include single-core results of about 4,200 to 4,300 points on Geekbench 6, and multi-core scores hitting 12,000 to 12,500 points. For comparison, the older model managed around 4,000 single-core and 11,000 multi-core points. Keep in mind these are from test versions, so phones you buy might see small changes, but overall, it means smoother multitasking, quicker gaming, and faster performance in top-tier devices.

What really sets the Dimensity 9600 Pro apart is its use of TSMC's latest 2nm N2P manufacturing process, which squeezes more power into a tiny, energy-saving package. The chip has a smart 2+3+3 CPU design with two super-fast Canyon cores for tough jobs, three Gelas-B cores for everyday balance, and three regular Gelas cores for basic tasks. It also supports SME2 instructions to make AI and machine learning tasks run better, along with a fresh Arm Magni GPU for crisper graphics.
Plus, it works with LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage for super-fast data handling. When stacked against the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5's 4.74GHz max speed, this MediaTek chip seems set to bring computer-level power to thin phones and maybe even portable gaming devices if they solve cooling issues.
To give you a sense of real-life improvements, take the Oppo Find X9 with the Dimensity 9500 it scored 2,966 single-core and 8,710 multi-core on Geekbench 6. The Find X9 Pro did even better at 3,251 single-core and 9,771 multi-core.
The 9600 Pro's specs hint at pushing those numbers higher, making it ideal for phones with advanced AI cameras, long gaming sessions, and effortless app switching. MediaTek hasn't announced a launch date, but rumors connect it to gadgets coming later in 2026, like Oppo's Find X9s Pro set for April 21 in China.

This news fits into bigger trends in mobiles, such as Vivo teasing its Y600 Pro as the first phone with a huge 10,000mAh battery for multi-day use, 90W fast charging, and a 50MP dual-camera in a cool round module. Meanwhile, India's smartphone shipments hit a six-year low in early 2026, with Vivo still on top despite the slowdown.
Upgrades like the Dimensity 9600 Pro could help companies shine in this challenging market. Tech enthusiasts are watching closely to see how this beast influences the next batch of powerful Android phones.
